The bottom of the can is stamped with the manufacturing information M. Westermann & Co. GmbH Neheim-Ruhr WESCO 8.
A rare piece of WHW material in good used condition. The coin check mechanism, the handle swivel and the hasp all work exactly as intended. A couple of small dents in the side.
Left, a Third Reich poster depicting a member of the Hitler Youth carrying a red WHW charity collection can in an original 1939 poster.
This is a nice original empty example of a Third Reich charity collection can from the Winter-Hilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes Gau Niederdonau, BUT repainted. This is an original Nazi era can that was stripped of its original eagle and swastika label, repainted and used after the end of World War II.
This 6-1/2 inch tall can has a 4 inch tall bail (8-1/2 inches tall overall) and is 5 inches wide at the handle. It has a serial number on the top of the coin slot, 12123.
In front of the coin slot are the words Papier geld (paper money and coins) on both sides of a hole into which paper money can be rolled and inserted. At the bottom of the front of the can is the name of the Nazi Gau Niederdonau (Lower Danube - the area around Greater Germany’s second largest city, Wien (Vienna). There is a hasp on the front which was locked with a lead seal on a wire when in use.
