1937 Due Kunst im Dritten Reich
Nazi Standarte
VOLUME I, NUMBERS 1, 3 and 4

THREE OF THE FIRST SIX
INCREDIBLY RARE ISSUES
OF THE MAGAZINE
DIE KUNST IM DRITTEN REICH
FROM 1937

These are among the rarest Third Reich magazines. They are nice, complete examples of three of the first four issues of the fanciest art magazine published during the Third Reich in Nazi Germany - Die Kunst im Dritten Reich (The Arts in the Third Reich). They are Volume 1, Numbers 1, 3 and 4 dated January, March and April 1937.

Most people with an interest in the German Third Reich are familiar with the magazine Die Kunst im Dritten Reich (the name was changed to Die Kunst im Deutschen Reich in 1939) but almost none have ever seen even one of the first six issues.

The first six issues of Die Kunst im Dritten Reich were considerably smaller than those published from July 1937 onward. They measure 8-1/4 x 11-1/4 inches and contain 32 pages of articles and many full-page illustrations.

The first few issues contained a 7-3/4 x 10-1/2 inch unbound, frameable insert.
The magazine eventually became THE national art magazine in Hitler’s Germany, but the first issues were sponsored by Gauleiter Adolf Wagner and published by Professor Klein, architect Albert Speer and Professor Leonhard Gall at the Nazi Party’s Central Publishing House, Franz Eher Nachfolger in München (Munich).
In the January 1937 issue following an appropriate quote from Hitler regarding German culture, and a Führer bust by Professor Klein, the magazine shows full-page pictures of the Eternal Guard at the Honor Temple of Party Martyrs on the Königsplatz, a wall of columns at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, the Haupttribune at the Reichs Party Days Grounds in Nürnberg, interiors of the Reichskanzlei in Berlin, Wackerle sculptures, a Schmid-Ehmen eagle, views of the Reichsautobahn, a tapestry in a Luftwaffe Kasino, a painting of Hermann Göring in his Luftwaffe uniform by Conrad Hommel, bronzes from the Berghof, etc.

The unbound picture in the first issue is a reproduction of Professor Richard Klein’s drawing “1937” which had also been used on the face of the 1936 Lauchhammer Jahresplakette.

In the March 1937 issue, Professor Klein and Professor Leonhard Gall are shown in charge and the graphics of Professor Hans Schweitzer-Mjölnir are the subject of the main article. The second great feature is the nearly completed Albert Speer Haupttribune on the Zeppelinwiese in Nürnberg, City of the Nazi Party Days. A third feature is on the Party Day and other medals by the renowned Professor Richard Klein.
Ordensburg Vogelsang
In the April 1937 issue, the lead article is a long one featuring Ordensburg Vogelsang in the Eifel Forest, the work of Professor Clemens Klotz. There is also an article on the Hindenburg Memorial atTannenberg. Photos show the Olympic Stadium in Berlin and one of the Joseph Wackerle sculptures and paintings by Professor Lothar Bechstein. The unbound picture in the April issue is a reproduction of a painting of two nudes by Professor Bechstein.

These three extremely rare magazines will be sold only as a lot. We will not separate them. They really are that rare! All three magazines are in very good used condition.
